Girls: What would you do if your friend said they liked you?

I though my friend liked me back, because she held my hand at a party and we fell asleep holding hands, and she knew I liked her at this point. But then she didn't speak to me for about 2 months over summer so I asked her why. I told her how I liked her, but didn't care if she didn't feel the same as I was happy being friends, but she said it was better if we weren't, so I could move on. She obviously never cared about me, or she'd want to be friends with me no matter what. She used to say no matter what happened she''d be there for me, well thats a lie as we haven't spoken now for 8 months. I miss her so much. Do you think the girl was in the right though?
